We are actually thinking of relocating to Appleton, WI so I’m very interested about local specialties in the area, the whole state really as I’ve never lived in Wisconsin before.
If you do, you’ll find we’re a pretty sociable bunch, and by “we”, I mean The Contingent (formal name: The Wisconsin-Illinois Contingent). We often get together for planned and impromptu foodie meat…errr….meetups.
We’d love to have new members.
As far as Appleton goes – it’s a charming little city. My favorite Italian place, ever, is there – Victoria’s. It’s like walking in to an old-school Mafiosi hangout. Which it might have been, considering WI was a popular home-away-from-home for the Chicago Mafia.
Another great place is Van de Walle’s Homemade Chocolates. It’s near the sprawling Appleton Mall.
Appleton is about an hour away from Madison, Green Bay and Milwaukee (in different directions), so great sightseeing and restaurants are always near, once you’ve tried all of Appleton’s great places.
Keep us posted if you move here, and we’ll do a proper Contingent greeting.
