… Hormel did test market Stagg Chili on the east coast of the US a few years ago. I found it very good. However, it is no longer sold here…
How strange. It was being sold in Franklin, NC (Southwestern NC) last spring and summer (2009). It was a regular item in the Ingles stores (franchise store located in NC, GA, TN and I think SC). We tried it and then threw it out. we thought it tasted nasty on our hot dogs (but not as bad as Wolf brand… just a real close second). We use Homel and doctor it up.
Several different versions of Stagg chili were sold in one supermarket chain around here, and then last year they dropped to one version, and it was the one that had beans so I stopped buying it. I thought Stagg was quie good, but I certainly differ with you when it comes to Wolf Brand. That’s the closest thing to good Texas red I’ve ever had from a container.
By the way, about two years ago they stopped selling the Stagg chili that came in a box and switched to nothing but cans.
