Hi tasty, try heating the links in a ziploc bag and holding them (in the bag) either with the dogs or the buns. The sausage is cooked, should heat well in the bag and you will not over season your hot dog water with hot greasy sausage residue……….take care….Billyb
DO NOT cook the sausages in a ziplock bag. Use a steam pan liner if you must use a bag. They are cheaper than the crockpot liners & turkey roaster bags but those can be used for a test run. Zip lock bags are not made to cook in. They may leach various plastic gases when heated (including in the microwave). They may develop a leak as well (usually around a seam). Or they melt (or not…. you never know one bag to the next).
We heat all our smoked sausages (hot dog, Johnsonville Brat, Hillshire Spicy Italian & the Chicken sausage) all in the same pan of water. None are too greasy (if they were, we would dump them). Flavours do not make one hot that shouldn’t be.
