I’m not sure the people in New England are trainable, I grew up there, nothing worked……….
I actually kind of agree with this. We like a totally different style of dog up these parts.
For example, after reading a lot of info on this site, and after watching a video with CSD in which he proclaimed loudly (and repeatedly) “Dress the dogs, NOT the buns!!!”, I opened up my stand proudly throwing all my condiments on top of the dogs like CSD. That lasted all of about 2 days. After about the 20th customer complained about the toppings falling off on their shirts, I started putting the condiments under the dogs like a true New Englander wants them!
Now I have about 3 customers a day look at the dog all confused and say “didn’t I order anything on this?”, and about 30 customers a day say “oh thank God you don’t put the stuff on top like everyone else does.” The rest of the customers don’t say anything at all about the condiments, so I guess they don’t have any opinion on the matter [8D]. I do still put the “premium” toppings (chili, cheese sauce, and sauerkraut) on top, just for appearance sake and so the bun doesn’t get too soggy, but even with those I have a number of customers specifically ask that it be on the bottom.
It was the same way when I ran the deli and customers ordered sub sandwiches – everyone wanted the veggies on the bottom and the meat on top so that the veggies didn’t fall out while you eat them. If you go to a major chain like Subway, they put the veggies on top. Guess we’re just different around these parts.
Actually I put chopped onions under the dog for the Ladies in Business dress. They thanked me for this. The Chili and cheese stayed on top.
They didn’t want the chopped onions from the chili dog falling on their outfits. But then again You can look at my shirt and tell me what I had to eat all day. LOL
