KELCY’S in Tehachapi 110 Main St.
VV is 35 miles off the route I mentioned. I wouldn’t do it for a burger at Hollands unless you really are in a ‘wandering’ mode.
The last part of the ride from Bakerfield to the coast is a rather winding and somewhat tiring drive, especially after 250+ miles of desert freeway. (Staying on rt 46 from Bakerfield west).
You can do it in a day if you get an early start (crack’o’dawn !!) thats Vegas to the coast…
Coming down to LA you really have little choice of routes. Use St Rt 1 to Morro Bay (eat some chowder at the pier) then link up to the 101 for the ‘old freeway’ south. Rt 1 also goes that way and is a pretty ride, but it takes for freakin’ ever to get to Santa Barbara. If you have the time, do it, but if you want to do Hearst Castle to LA in a day, get on the 101. I am way out of date for any coast road recommendations, other than the pier at Morro Bay. But I will stake my rep on the ride from Vegas to the Coast on the places I listed above.
I am assuming that you will not be using the coast road on a weekend. You can add a LOT of extra time for weekend traveling on that road to be sure.
