I buy candy every year for the kids, but there’s not been a single one ringing my doorbell in the past several years. I figured that this year, with at least four little kids living on my road, I’d get some candy action, but it never happened.
When I was a kid we didn’t have trick or treat where I lived. At least none of us kids had ever heard of it. We started ringing doorbells and running in September and kept it up through Halloween. On Halloween itself we’d dodastardly things. One of my favorites was to fill a paper bag with dog leavings, place it on a front porch, set the bag on fire and rig the bell and run like hell. When the guy would open the door he;d see the burning bag and stomp on it, thus coating his shoe and pants leg with what was inside the bag.
It was always the night that I ended up picking rock salt out of my butt.
I’m not sure if they had Trick Or treat in the late 1800’s but I bet you had fun with the Witch hunts. You really weren’t that far from Salem Mass……………….This should start the week off with a bang
