I don’t know about tax advantages, but in my state the state license expires every jan 30th regardless of when you purchased it, the city permit is good for a full calendar year.  So i have to reup my state license every january and permit every march.  

I would look into your local licensing and see how it affects you, could be better than any tax breaks.
