I don’t take any kind of solicitation calls. Unfortunately, being on the Do Not Call list doesn’t screen you from political calls, or from calls from merchants or services with whom you dealt in the past.
But my current gripe has to do with snail-mail solicitations. I give to a number of charities, and they all seem to share their lists unless you specifically opt out. So by giving to one group, you’re almost guaranteed to get a bunch of solicitations from similar groups. It’s maddening.
Worst of all, my father gave me a gift subscription to “The Week” magazine. I love the magazine, but by virtue of being on their mailing list, I’m now on the Republicans’ mailing list, and am being bombarded with solicitations from people like Tim Pawlenty, the RNC, etc.
This is not a partisan comment. I’d be just annoyed if the junk mail came from the Democrats. I’ve never registered as a member of any political party, don’t attend the party caucuses (for any party) here in Minnesota, didn’t vote in partisan primaries when I lived places that had them, and I vote across all party lines. And I’ve never made a campaign contribution to anyone in my life.
