We use Hormel No Beans, usually from Wal-Mart since it’s the cheapest ($1.78 for 15 oz). We were buying from Sam’s Clubs while in NC by the 6 pack, but they don’t stock it here. Hormel has a good texture and is a good mild tasting base to start from. We “fix” the chili with additional stuff to compliment the taste of our hot dogs we serve. It works for us. And I don’t have to make chili from scratch. I’m supposed to be semi retired and we keep expanding and adding stuff to our menu.
lorna-Is it your secret fix or do you care to share. If you don’t I understand. I tried to ‘doctor’ it this morning. I got a better chance of being a Chippendale dancer than being a chef.
Hey Tasty Dog, try some chili powder and cumin seed. Most home made sauces unique taste comes from whole cumin seed. It will help doctor up some canned chili. I use canned chili con-carne without beans and add some spices. No complaints so far.
