Hey Buns, Thanks for updating me where you are. I love New Hampshire area in the Fall so when you get set up please be sure to tell me and the rest of the Hot Dog family where you are. We all try to support our local HD vendors here.
Far as Cart…what you could do long as it doesn’t interfere with your doors opening under the cart..is have bigger wheels put on.. The thing that is going to amaze you is how much they want for a non auto TIRE! highway robbery. But that could solve your problems there..far as durability …mine is made out of diamond plate..best thing to have it made out of…nice and thick..and very strong. I don’t know what the cost is extra wise to have diamond plate done on one of the carts you looked at but shouldn’t be more than a few hundred..if more walk away..not a good deal. Your talking about five full size sheets..the big thing is cutting a straight line and such..but cost is not that much more.
I would also make sure when you get a cart that it have wheel wells just like a car or truck..this will help keep the debri down from when your driving down the road. For a cover..well get ready..they want as much as 500 for a “custom” cart cover…know what I bought..and it’s rain proof and bigger… I motorcycle cover!…cost me less than a 100!
One of the things you need to do in this business is always think outside of the box. I go to auctions now to buy all my supplies. I got pans “perforated” pans that cost 45 dollars new!..for 5 dollars and I got 4 for that 5 dollar price. I also got reg pans NEW for 5 each. So when you get your cart go to auctions. I got at another auction..a condiment, six tray housing..should of cost me 45 dollars..got it brand new out of the box… 5 dollars. In one auction I save 250 dollars in price and shipping and spent 75 dollar total..including state tax. I got unteen spoons and ladles, solid and slotted.. 5 dollars a box. this doesn’t count ice tea holder, 400 dollar coffee station, neon signs and so on..all for 30 cents on the dollar usually. And go to all the ones you can …office furniture… I got all the little kitchen stuff for 5 bucks… micro, 50 dollar high end coffee thermos, plates, George foreman grill and all ..each item 5 bucks or less.
You don’t know what you’ll find and sadly there are a lot of auctions going on for restaurants and offices.
Do not buy from supply stores if you can, next to boats, restaurants are the biggest mark up items in the world..and the crap they try to sell from china.. you do better with bare hands to the crap they make.
But you look around the cart business comes and goes so you want to make sure you buy something if it’s used that the company is still around. Again don’t buy anything that is more than 2 years left unused and lic. There will be a lot of cost you’ll end up spending to get it health dept worthy.
Have you checked with the state yet far as regs? You need to start doing that too..it could take you two months to get lic ! Also see what the laws and codes state for your area..are you aloud to set up in the city, if so what do they demand you carry far as insurance. It shouldn’t be more than 500 a year..but you will be made to have insurance. You don’t need it..at least in Florida if your on private property..just need to have a written note to show the cops and HD inspector if they ask.
In the city they usually let you have one or two spots, in my city it’s two..but it’s a hell of a price.. 170 per spot and if you let the lease go ..well then someone else can snatch it up from under your nose…
commissary is another biggie start to look for that too. If you can find one that you can park your cart inside of …those are the best..and if you find one with a kitchen well then your really set far as cooking that chili I mention in first note.
Well I am getting sleepy..it’s been brutal down here in FL…hit 100 for more than 5hrs today with 96 humidity…feel like living in the Sahara, but not ,47,593584.003001001001,4,113401,220.127.116.11
