I think the VW Beetle killed the Nazi German stereotype (I know the Beetle’s history and the irony isn’t lost on me) and when Japan did away with pot metal machinings and put out a quality product did the same for Japan. The popularity of pizza made Il Duce Italians a instant distant memory.
