Cave-in Rock is far more than a ‘big room’ that attracts tourists. For years it was the most dangerous point for travelers heading down the Ohio River to pass. It was the haven for River-pirates, Robbers, and all manner of nasty bad-guys. They based themselves in the cave, keeping a lookout for the downstream traffic to raid.
These weren’t Robin Hood kinda guys…These were nasty mean men who would sooner kill than not. Many families met their demise thinking they could buy their way passed the outlaws at the Cave-in-Rock.
