Is Bill’s as good as ever? I honestly would say “no,” but my history with Bill’s goes back to the late 70s. The burgers are much bigger now and the crust-to-interior ratio is lower, and it was that maillard-crusty patty that made the burger great, imo. My fondest local burger memories aren’t from Bill’s, but from a place in Aberdeen called the Hamburger House, which I went to often in the mid to late 70s. Crusty and delicious like Bill’s, but moreso. Sadly gone now.
I have friends and relatives who say that Country Boy Burgers, across the street from Bill’s, is the better burger, but I haven’t checked them out. They’ve only been open for 25 years or so…I’m waiting for them to settle in and for their grill to get good and seasoned.
