As a kid in the 1980s, my family and I took a plant tour at Kellogg’s in Battle Creek, MI — they don’t do those anymore. I remember we had to wear hair nets and they took us right onto the plant floor, and at the end we got free full-size boxes of Frosted Flakes. Foreshadowing of later life: Now I’m a dairy industry trade magazine editor and visit about a dozen plants a year. It’s great to visit dairy plants that also offer public tours. Not too many — Tillamook’s been mentioned; Blue Bell in Brenham, TX is another, and Mayfield in Athens, TN.
