went back to Son of a Preacher Man tonight, and here’s what I added to urbanspoon
EDIT 2015-05-28: SoaPM, you are making it very hard for me to like you, and also very hard for me to dislike you. Finally got over there to try the fried chicken dinner. Since my last visit, they nearly doubled up the already high price of the mac and cheese to nearly 6.00, and they even tack on a surcharge of 1.49 now if you choose it as your one side included with dinner. 6.00 for a little cup of mac and cheese? Seriously? Worse, when I asked for 2 thighs in my 2 pc dinner, I was told there would be a surcharge for that as well. This isn’t noted anywhere on the menu, but your first piece of either the 2 or 3 piece dinner can be a breast or a thigh, and the other piece(s) are either a wing or a leg, unless you want to pay a per piece surcharge for that as well. I bit my tongue and ordered anyway. Well, as much as I hate the pricing and policies, I do really like this chicken. I can’t think of another place where I can order fried chicken and not want a sauce or gravy to accompany it, but this stuff has some really good flavor and is delicious by itself. The biscuit included with the meal was cut from a sheet same as last time, but was fresher, fluffier, and just all around better than the one I had on my first visit. The side I chose – cheddar grits – was just OK, with very little of the promised cheddar flavor. All in all, food quality (for me) trumps pretty much everything else, so overall I do grudgingly still like this place, but between the parking and the pricing, I won’t be getting back to SoaPM soon or often. Given the nearly empty dining room on each of my visits, I suspect I am not alone in this line of thought.
