Cafe Angelique is a wonderful french outdoor cafe. Very popular place. If you are interested in Asain you may want to check out Empress Pavilion (in Chinatown) for dim sum on the weekend mornings. Also, if you are a dumpling fan you may want to opt for Mandarin Deli on Second St. in Little Tokyo (concentrate on the dumplings and the noodle soups.) Also, if you have kids one of the funnest places to go to in Downtown is Shabu Shabu in Little Tokyo (come to think of it, it’s fun even if you are an adult.) It’s always mobbed so get there early. You get a fondue dish of boiling water, a plate of raw thinly sliced beef, and another plate of raw veggies and noodles. Then you go to town dunking your goods in the boiling water and dipping them in the two dipping sauces you get. Note: there is another Shabu Shabu type place on Second St. right next door to Mandarin Deli but it is not as good. The place I’m talking about is in an outdoor shopping center on Second Street.
I second all of your recommendations.
Do you know the name of that Dim Sum place with "Seafood" in the name? It has a huge parking lot, and a huge upstairs banquet room. It is next to a little grocery store. Downstairs is a little take-out deli…???
They have the most amazing soy sauce chicken. But I "feel" my way around Chinatown and don’t know any addresses.
