Well, downtown LA certainly has it’s good, bad and ugly…but within a limited area, unless you are going for highly ethnic cuisine (Mexican, Chinese, and others) which I can’t help you with, there really aren’t that many great roadfood type places…which, to be honest, I think is typical of most downtowns. Original Pantry, Phillipe’s and Langer’s are my Top 3…maybe throw in Pollo Campero (SOuth or Central American inspired fried chicken place). DOwntown LA has changed drastically the last 20 years…but the changes have only heightened the differences between rich and poor. With rail and rapid transit service as well as Staples Center and the COnvention Center expansion, it certainly has become much more a destination than before. It is NOT, however, NY, Chicago or San Francisco.
