It has an underground spring (now part of the bar) and it was one of the first stops on the Underground Railroad above the Mason Dixon Line. You can see the crawl space where the escaped slaves hid while they were there. It’s a little cheesy, what with the costumes on the waitstaff, etc., but ALL of Gburg is cheesy in that way. If you are willing to suspend your sense of irony and just surrender to the experience, I recommend the duck. [:D]
I have to disagree with you that "Its a little cheesy". After all, this is a "period" restaurant and the costumes add to the ambiance of this fine restaurant. A server, dressed in dark pants, white shirt and a bowtie, coming to the table and annoucing his name to you just would not fit in with a "period" restaurant. The menu is great and I love feeling like I am back in that period of time.
