I looked up our state symbols, and North Carolina doesn’t have an official dessert. But logic tells me that if we had one, it would almost have to be Banana Pudding. I don’t believe I’ve ever been to a meat-and-three type of place here where banana pudding wasn’t a choice for dessert. Ditto for pot luck dinners and family reunions. Also, most Baptist churches here have an annual event that’s called Homecoming Sunday. The idea is to invite former members who have married, moved, or left for any other reason back, to visit their "home" church, and feed them a huge lunch. After everyone has eaten, there is an afternoon of music. A NC Homecoming Sunday would not be complete without several large pans of homemade banana pudding in the dessert section of the groaning board.
