Best brats I ever had were in Sheboygan (sp?), Wisconsin, at some outdoor community festival thing. I can still remember 6 or 7 grills lined up with nothing but brats simmering… it was some sight. Johnsonville Brats are ok as well, except one thing I’ve found (with Johnsonville at least) is that they shrink when you throw them on the grill. I’m not sure if that happens to grilled brats in general, since I don’t eat them all that much, but they become all the less filling for my tastes.
I’ve been to Schmidt’s in Columbus before – can’t say I remember what their brat was like, other than it was big. What I CAN remember (and this is off topic, but…) is how enormous their cream puffs are. I couldn’t finish one then, and I sincerely doubt I could now.
