Greymo, please keep updating this thread. I am really enjoying reading about their likes and dislikes.
I dated a wonderful Beijing-born Chinese woman for a year and half. The only thing she admitted to liking better in the US was ice cream, saying ours was much superior. Maybe this would partially explain why she was an absolute ice cream eating machine. She also loved ranch dressing, saying how much it reminded her of a very popular Chinese sauce.
She also once told me a saying the Chinese use: If you want to talk, go to Beijing. If you want to shop, go to Shanghai. But if you want to eat, go to Guangzhou.
Really interesting………..we will have to give them ice cream tonight! They live in Tianjin which is only 90 miles from Beijing…………and they do love to talk. It is very interesting that they want to speak English all the time. If they don’t understand a word, they get their phone out and look it up. Our kids do not get much chance to speak to them in Chinese. But when my grandson goes to China for 16 days in June, he will have his chance. Both girls have taken English in school since 1st grade and they are so thrilled that we understand them.
