so, then, if one orders a grilled cheese, then that person should expect that it could come with bacon or ham on it, from just the name "grilled cheese?" Because, when one orders a hamburger, it’s common practice for it to have toppings like onion, tomato and lettuce. It may even have some condiments on it. Infact, on a hamburger, you usually have to tell them you don’t want the onions if you don’t like onions, rather than an onion lover needing to tell them to add the onions. Of course, when you put cheese on it, it’s a cheeseburger, not a hamburger.

It is not common practice for a grilled cheese to come served with anything in it except cheese, unless you ask for the additional items. You may have the option to add items, but rarely are those items included in the basic grilled cheese description. Therefore a grilled cheese is merely a grilled cheese, since it’s not a sandwich that has inherent toppings like a burger. So, one cannot really compare the two.
