I’m enjoying the funny stories, especially, Tony, about the potatoes. My brother works in a convention hotel in Chicago, and it’s incredible the depths to which allegedly sophisticated and financially endowed people will sink with people whom they think are their inferiors. Around here, the waitpersons are going to get more sympathy than the wealthy socialites, especially when the wealthy socialites act in such a way to make it clear THEY are the inferiors!
This can sometimes seem like an intimidating website, and we do act rather clubby from time to time. My first post was about Steak ‘n Shake, and I couched my comment in the most careful language. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t call out someone who’s wrong, or, worse yet, insulting. Someone posted a link to an article about a book a New York native wrote that praises a local specialty, which was fine. However, the poster also managed to work in an insult to other cities’ versions of the specialty. I have had my say. Have your say, too, Barnbuster, but remember what my brother always says: "You never elevate yourself by sinking to the level of others."
