During the 5 years I worked in DC, I met many political bigwigs, including two presidents and most supreme court justices, as well as many celebrities including Jackie O…and the overwhelming majority were nice, polite, and respectful. Sadly, it is the ones that break your stones that we remember the most. I’ll never forget at a large party at the home of journalist Roger Mudd he began relating the history of his home as we were setting up for the event, and he could see that while we were interested, we were also pressed for time. After the event, he had a bunch of us sit down in his living room ("on the clock" he said) and have something to eat and drink and discuss the history of his home. He was such a wonderful gentleman. There were many like him. I didn’t want to leave the impression that wealth and power are always accompanied by rudeness.
I have been smiling to myself all day thinking of those potatoes![;)]
