We never called it that. My grandparents on my dad’s side are both 100% Italian, and from "near Ligonier" in PA. My Gram just calls it sauce.

Made with ground beef it becomes "meat sauce, the way Aunt Rose used to make it".

Sometimes she browns a chuck roast & lets the sauce cook, then throwas the beef in. Then it becomes "the sauce with the beef in it".

Although sometimes she will cook pork into the sauce, either alone or with the beef. she’s sneaky like that. [;)]
