Hi everyone! Made it back to NJ late tonight from my Texas adventure. (4 nights in Dallas, and 3 nights in Austin..)
Yes, Scorereader, I agree with you 100%, as I was hoping for some "icebreaker" introductions on Friday night. I know that space was a little tight in that Threadgills room, but it would’ve been nice if there could have been a microphone passed around with everyone saying a few sentences about themselves. ( we did that on the bus, and I thoroughly enjoyed it) (between that and listening to Michael Stern’s little antecdotes, it felt like being on a summer camp bus)
As much as I enjoy comedians, if it was a choice of one or the other, I’d much rather have done some introductions.
It would’ve been even cooler to have our "entertainment" provided by our fellow Roadfooders.
Hey, Baah Ben, thanks for inquiring about me. Yes, I was at Threadgill’s but I was’nt able to get there till 8:30, due to no fault of my own. (event started at 7). So I guess I did’nt make any of those pics.
My flight from Dallas to Austin was supposed to be only a half hour flight! However we got held up on the runway for 4 hours. We were out there so long the captain said we had to go back to the gate to refuel. It was a 2 pm Southwest Airlines flight, and we finally landed at 7:30 pm in Austin. (got to stay in good spirits to fly the airlines these days) . On the bright side, the flight attendants and pilots had great attitudes on all my flights, and I’ve got a lifetime supply now of peanuts, pretzels, and cheese nips.
Anyway, when I finally got to Threadgill’s, I asked my nice friend Signman if I missed much. He assured me that I did NOT, as most of the group was just staying in their seats and not moving around mingling much. (maybe cause of the small space?) Signman was actually one of the few I noticed who WAS making the rounds.
I agree with you Baah Ben that half the fun is meeting fellow Roadfooders that we’ve been kibbutzing with…(it’s fun to finally put a face to the screen name)
In Dallas I got to meet Roadfooder, Twinwillow. And I feel like I have a new friend now. It’s nice to have this Roadfood.com outlet…
I know half the fun for me is reading and responding to posts, plus
doing trip reports. (Dallas & Austin coming up ASAP) , and of course, actually meeting Roadfooders face to face.
I enjoy seeing new Roadfooders posting, and try and give a nice welcome. To me, it just would’nt be anywhere near as fun to "lurk" and not post, but to each is own.
IMO , it may have been too generous to give a "6 ticket limit" to Threadgills. Cause I think what may have happened is that some of the really dedicated Roadfooders got shut out, while other members used up all 6 tickets, and not everyone in their group were true Roadfood groupies. (that may explain the lack of mingling around)
I like the idea of a "2 ticket" limit much better. It still would allow Roadfooders to bring their spouse or a special friend.
