We can’t get Rainier down here in Southern Oregon anymore. They used to have these stocky 16oz. bottles that NW’ers called "pounders". On our first trip to the NW, we stopped in a tavern in Yakima at 11:00 in the morning, the bar already full of old men drinking Pounders. Of course, when in Rome or Yakima, so we sampled our first of these NW favorites.
They also had an ale that came in green bottles that the crowds in the houseboats in Sausalito used to call "green death".
The brewery was sold so I’m interested in who makes this stuff now, unless the bear took the camper’s private stash.
I’d agree with the bear’s assessment of Busch, but I wonder if he’d go for that new hip favorite, Pabst Blue Ribbon. Everything old is new again. My grandfather’s beer now the in thing! Too much.
