We spent a year in Jamaica—wife is an anthropologist–and she became absolutely addicted to theses!!!!—them and Guinep—i woderful fruit. She buys the tamerind balls candies at asian markets now and prefers the ones with less chili powder.
So that’s how you spell guinep. In the Virgin Islands it’s pronounced guh-NIP. They used to climb our guinep tree to pluck the ripe fruit whenever they could get away with it when we lived on St. Thomas.
