Lately I’ve abandoned the jarred sauce and it still doesn’t add that much to the overall time. I sweat some onions until soft, add some garlic and italian seasoning. Add a spoonful of tomato paste and cook until it gets a little redder. Then I just dump in a can of crushed tomatoes some chicken broth and a little red wine vinegar, red pepper flakes, finish with some basil and you have a sauce you can do several different things with. It only takes a few minutes and it just taste so much better than the overly sweet jarred ones.
