I must say for not having any italian in you that’s not a bad recipe at all.
I suggest if you’re just making it for yourself to grab a can of crushed tomatoes ( I prefer tutorosso brand, but whatever your preference is). Take a pot, but some olive oil in it through in some minced garlic (bought in a jar) slice up a little onion and cook that until the garlic and onion become clear not burnt. Then, if you’re making a meat sauce (if not a meat sauce just do the next step), throw the meat in and brown it, top that with the crushed tomatoes stir for a second. Add basil, sea salt, black pepper, crushed red pepper, and a bay leaf. (all to taste) then as your stirring it up get some bread to dip in it to taste it. When it is to your liking remove the bay leaf and toss with your favorite pasta. I suggest rigatoni
