Oh darn it. We just came back and read this last post. I LOVE that horseradish cheddar spread. We missed it. It was Monday and we also missed Laura’s since it’s closed on Mondays. Instead we ate our leftover chicken at a rest stop, talk about roadfood.
We did make it to Stoagie’s in Coldwater where I had a delicious spinach salad with lukewarm bacon dressing and my wife had an uninspired ham and cheese sandwich. We did manage on the way back to stop at the Log House’s new location in downtown Argos, IN where we had tuna salad on croissants with macaroni salad and overheard the neighborly local banter on Taco Thursday. “Hey Fred, good to see you, thanks for the cucumbers.” and “The fire house’s fish fry is coming up, best fish I’ve ever had, they ran out last year at 5:00” and the waitress knows her regular customers enough to know that one older gentleman would want his tuna salad on white bread instead of the croissant. And the cook came out from the back still wearing his white apron to have a salad with a friend. A great adventure off US 31. It’s not just about the food.
