To all,

Yes we had this all the time, even in the school cafeteria. At the time it was called "Hamburger Gravy" and they serverd it on what passed for mashed potatoes. My Mom would make it with real potatoes.

This was by no means SOS however. SOS is creamed chipped beef (the "S") on a piece of toasted bread (the other "S" meaning shingle). I believe a wonderful meal.

This may be the Northern or Northeastern version of sausage and gravy except the folks in the north did not use biscuits; or sausage for that matter, and it tastes well, different…oh never mind.

Suffice to say if you have a choice between biscuits and gravy or creamed chipped beef…go where you heart leads you.
