Rutabaga is one veggie that I could not choke down as a kid…and it hasn’t changed in my opinion since the years have flown by. I can tolerate small amounts of Mashed Turnip as part of a traditional holiday meal(buried in Turkey Gravy??). But it is not meant to be a mainstay veggie in my House.
Kohlrabi, on the other hand, is great when eaten raw in a salad. We grew a Lot of Kohlrabi in the SoCal desert garden. It needed lots of water but did very well there. Much like Beets it is best when picked ‘small’ as it gets woody and bitter if allowed to grow to ‘full-size’. Raw it is a lot like Jicama, another of my favorite Salad Additions.
