Just so we are clear here, I’m not (yet) in the food business at all. I was refering to profits from my current business which is a service based business in no way related to food. My fixed overhead runs under 10% of annual gross. Actual cost of expendables per sale is about 1% to 2%. OK so cut with the Amway jokes. Both my business and my numbers are real.
The thing is, I want to open a hot dog stand (when I say stand I mean an enclosed structure at a fixed location, not a cart or a concession trailer) because (A): I have a damn good idea for one that screams franchise possibilites later on; and (B): there are no decent hot dog vendors in my town, so the need is there. My only problem (and one that seems to have most of this forum at odds with me) is I would have to hire someone to operate the business for me. I can dream it, I can research it to the ninth degree, I can design and build it, I can even self-finance it 100%, I just can’t be there to run it everyday once the doors are open.
I’m not in this to create a job for myself. I already have a very good job that I love. I want to create another new and interesting business – one that will hopefully benefit my community as much as myself and provide a few more people with part-time jobs. What’s wrong with that?
