I must admit I have an old friend who can be an embarassment in stores. She is a little elderly lady who would not harm a soul but she can be oblivious to the fact that she can be a bump in the road. I remember one time she caught me right at the door of the grocery. She had a story to tell me and she was going to tell it RIGHT THERE. There was a fair amount of traffic and I did my best to prompt her and move her out of the way but I sure had to use a lot of ‘excuse us’s and apologetic smiles. It was the darndest thing I ever saw. She would look at the people moving around her and smile but wouldn’t MOVE. Boy, for a person of 4’9” and about 90 pounds, she made a dandy road block. Just like a boulder in a stream. She is hard of hearing, English is her second language and, for all I know, a little confused.
Ironically, with all of you complaining about being slowed down, what really worries me in stores are people who run and barrel around corners. These are usually children and exuberant people of all ages. Since I can’t get off the floor without help, this can be scary for me. I just have to be aware. Like with emergency vehicles, I pull over and wait till the danger is past. I’m not going to compete with it.
