I was told by customers that the slats on pallets are hickory and the cross bars oak.  They said they used them for smoking meat.  They just can’t be painted.

I’ve heard of many different woods being used on pallets, like trash mahogany and others, but never hickory. I’d be leery about using pallet wood for food smoke.
