Regional specialties in Northeastern Ohio…
Briar Hill pizza: a pizza topped with red sauce, a sprinkling of romano cheese and sweet/hot peppers. Also known as old fashioned. Unlike other pizzas, no mozzarella is used. Restaurants in the Youngstown/Warren area such as Belleria’s and Brothers Pizza serve it.
Buckeyes: a chocolate-covered peanut butter sweet that is shaped to resemble Buckeyes. This is more of an Ohio speciality as opposed to a Northeastern Ohio specialty. Think of them as a better version of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Can be found in specialty food shops or bakeries. I sampled some in the Mocha House restaurant in Warren.
