"Now – does anyone remember Sieben’s Beer Garten on the Southside?" Heck yes! The best thing about them was that they never carded us when we were under 21. But wasn’t it on the near north side? Where exactly was it? My memory is not as good as it used to be….like as of last week.
In Chicago, I remember taverns having signs for and serving "Bull Frog" beer. Don’t think I ever tried it. The Koenig Brau brewery was near my home on the south side. Neighbor worked there and I remember him giving my dad and me a tour. I must have been 4 years old, but I can still remember the bottles coming down the conveyer system.
Worst beer that I recall drinking was Pabst Blue Ribbon in a can. Bottled Pabst wasn’t too bad, but the canned stuff was horrid.
When I was in the army in Germany many eons ago, most G.I.s would go to the "Blue Bird" bar, where the German waitresses spoke better english than we did, and pay at that time, $1.30 for a bottle of Pabst. I’d go around the corner to a local gasthaus and get a huge mug of great German beer for 30 cents.
