Wallyum – I’d be interested in knowing where the Hauck’s Brewery was located and what years they were in business. I’d also like to verify that my great grandfather Luzius Christoffel was indeed the braumeister, or at least one of the brewers. I have a book called "Yesterday’s Cincinnati" (by Luke Feck) with a picture of Hauck’s employees posed in front of the brewery with a few kegs of their product. My late mother told me that one of the men in the front row was my great grandfather, so I’m curious to know if there is any record of his name. Thanks for any info.
Sorry this took so long, but we’re in the process of moving and I just uncovered my beer books yesterday.
From what I can tell, the Hauck Brewery was in business from 1863-1919 and located on Dayton Street in downtown Cincinnati. Several of the brewery buildings appear to still be standing on Dayton Street, but I don’t know what that part of town is like. The books I have on the subject "Cincinnati Breweries" by Robert J. Wimberg and "Over The Barrel" bu Timothy J. Holian, don’t mention your grandfather. Sorry.
BTW, we stumbled onto the summer home of the Hauck family up in an industrial park off of Mosteller Road last weekend. It’s a beautiful house and barn, but it’s in a lousy location. (That was probably country at one time.)
