Please don’t forget Genesee, Utica Club, and Knickerbocker. Ballantine IPA was a fantastic full-flavored beer sticking up from a tide of yellow swill. Genesee used to make its own premium beer, Black Horse Ale. I wonder if that’s still around. Isn’t Piels Real Draft a New York beer or, is it Philly?

Brad is correct, Genesee made 12 Horse Ale, and High Falls Brewing (the current Genesee after a management buy out) continued making it seasonally until last year. They announced that due to lower sales, they were putting the brand to bed, but may bring it back in the future.

If you like 12 Horse, try some of the newer premium offerings from High Falls Brewing, such as Michael Shea’s or the JW Dundee India Pale Ale. In fact, the number of new brands they brought out may have helped to drop the demand for some of their older Genesee brands.
