Huhhm … We had to delete posts on this topic? I hope they never come out the the McPrimeRib!Allow me to pipe in?
When I was a wee lad (in the 60’s) I used to get taken out by my parents and the "prime rib" was the big deal … I never caught on as to why.
Prime rib was festive, but I always thought it was fatty and, in general, NOT "prime."
My parents also used to order "High Balls" … Honestly, to this day, I have no idea what a High Ball is (was) … That’s all they’d say "High Ball please," and they’d get a drink and they’d be happy with it (???) … (!!!) …
Nowadays, I order the occasional prime rib * and, by gosh, I still don’t think it is all that festive. To me it is more of a gamble than anything else. If the cut of "prime" rib isn’t fatty, it is likely to be overcooked, if not just plain tough …
I write this from a medium-to-low-end casino hotel in Vegas, where in the elevator is a sign that says their "specialty" is $2.99 "prime rib" … I went by the restaurant yesterday and there was a line … I might be missing something … I like to gamble, but not when it comes to a meal.
* at a place like The Gaurds in DC
When my Grandparents made "High balls" in the 1950’s and the 1960’s, it was Seagrams and Seven Up with ice and a cherry in it! To this day I don’t know why it was called a "High Ball" and I asked them this question, many of times and never got a answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
