Being a former Michigander, you have my smypathies. There’s not much between here and there. The only GREAT restaurant in that area was The Golden Mushroom in Southfield. Chef Milos was the first Certified Master Chef in the US. The restaurant is now closed. I ate there several times and it was fabulous.
