We have family in the Canby/Oregon City area, and my Mom spent her final years in Mount Angel, so visiting was something we did a lot over the past decade or so. My BIL is a pilot so his interest in aircraft was even stronger than my interest in the Southern Pacific RR which runs thru the area. One stop for us on every trip would be at the site of the ‘storage’ of the Spruce Goose. It was stored in large pieces-wings,fusalage,tail etc, outside in a large ‘sideless’ pole barn in McMinnville. You could drive up fairly close to the fenced in Barn and see the plastic covering flapping in the wind. For years we thought it was just going to rot away.
I am glad they have finally taken the steps to preserve it and display it again.

Two other great historic sites in the area worth taking some time to visit are the Lewis and Clark site at Ft Clatsop near Astoria and the Oregon Trail "End of the Trail" Museum in Oregon City. We really enjoy our visits to the Beaver state…even if they won’t let us pump our own Gas!!
