No one will argue against your definition of BBQ…and we all agree that nothing will equal the open pit, whole hog (or other meat) cooked for ages that way… But a lot of folks use the term interchangeably for ‘grilling’ ‘cooking out’ and a bunch of other terms. And as described, some of our cold-weather, city-dwelling cousins don’t have the advantage that Bubba, Paul, and I have of having a pit in the yard.
It could be worse.. I have seen people making Tofu kebobs and saying they were going to BBQ them (Welcome to L A )….yuck[xx(]
