Not too long ago (1965) I was staying at a Holiday Inn (On The Elk) in Charleston, West Virginia while waiting to get into my new apartment. I went into the motel restaurant for lunch and saw “Kosher Corned Beef Sandwich” on the menu. I hadn’t had one in a while so I ordered it. Shortly thereafter the waitress brought my food. There it was: corned beef, lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise on white bread.

Not too long ago? Ha! That was the year I was born!

Did they also  have a hamburger bun with a hole poked through the middle masquerading as a bagel?
