With a list like this it proves all the Italian and Jewish people have left NYC. I wouldn’t say this looks to be the top 10 sandwiches in NYC. It may be 10 of the better sandwiches among 100’s. I would bypass most of these on my way to Defonte’s Sandwich Shop. I bet Billyboy would give a thumbs up for the Brisket sandwich at Katz’s deli. I’ll be in NYC and I’m thinking of stopping at Red Hook for a Lobster Roll……When you take the tradition out of NYC I wonder what the heck your left with.
Nope, they’re still there, however the grandkids and great grandkids of the immigrants prefer something new and fresh. One of my friend’s wives put it perfectly “we loved our grandparents but we don’t want to be our grandparents”
Tradition changes over time, nothing is ever set in stone. 50 years from now, New Yorkers will be longing for that traditional “grown up grilled cheese” and “pork belly banh mi’s”
