I’m not a big fan of government interference, but trans-fats are so unhealthy that restuarant owners that use it are doing their customers harm. I think they should voluntarily change their cooking methods to show that they care about their customers. But they shouldn’t be forced. They should be educated about other healthier alternatives. I like to happily chow down on delicious food without having the nagging suspicion that I’m being dosed with it. I think it should be voluntarily eliminated nationwide. It is in so many commerically prepared products. I had a little war with the Keebler company trying to get them to take hydrogenated fat out of Rainbow Chip cookies (my 3 year old likes them), but I think I lost. Those Keebler elves are evil.
If you buy Canadian or European baked goods, it usually isn’t in them. They still use butter.
Someone should start a thread about High Fructose Corn Syrup as well…another horrible ingredient that should be eliminated. It is in almost every loaf of commericially prepared bread….it makes it smell funny. I think adding trans-fat and HFCS to food has helped generate the "obesity epidemic" we hear so much about.
