Mama Dip’s is real home cooking — cooking like you would do at home. But it is real local flavors, and I agree with the comment on the veg and desserts. As well as the suggestion of Allen & Son — the real deal, and almost always in the top ten for Carolina BBQ.
If you’re headed to Chapel Hill for Mama Dip’s and Allen & Son, brewhouses would be Carolina Brewery and Top of the Hill, both on Franklin Street and in walking distance of each other — Carolina Brewery my preference. Breadmen’s on Rosemary Street in Chapel Hill for breakfast.
If you want to go up-scale Southern-inspired, Magnolia Grill in Durham gets good reviews.
We went to Dip’s a couple of years ago and fell in love with the place. I replaced Rowe’s in Staunton as my wife’s favorite fried chicken. And I loved my all-vegetable plate.
