For an informal lunch (fried seafood – scallops / fish & chips, etc), its hard to beat Flo’s Clam shack at 4 Wave Ave in Middletown – just past the Newport beachs – across from the Atlantic Beach Club. It’s the best of all clam shacks, but it may not be formal enough for what you are describing.
