Well, Italian is huge in Rochester, especially on the west side (Gates, Chili, Greece). One of my favorite’s is Domenico’s (get the Trio or Tortellini alla Guiseppe) located on East Henrietta Road in Henrietta. Another is Calabri’s (plain old spaghetti with marinara and meatballs) on Pixley Road in Gates.
For steak I would recommend Scotch N’ Sirlion off Winton Road in Brighton. Great filet minion and salad bar. Oh and don’t forget to order their homemade chocolate chip mint ice cream for dessert- amazing.
For Asian I recommend the Plum Garden in Pittsford Plaza. The Hibachi Grill is fun to sit at while they make your dinner in front of you. I also recommend the hibachi filet minion or the hibachi shrimp. For a buffet-style, head to the Chinese Buffet on Jefferson Road in Henrietta (across from Southtown Plaza). Great variety and clean. For sitdown- Aja Noodle on Monroe Ave.
For chicken wings- Jermiah’s Tavern on Monroe Ave. For crepes- Simply Crepes in Schoen Place in Pittsford. For Mexican- Mex’s on Alexander St. For pizza- Guida’s in Penfield or Irondequoit. For coffee- Java Joe’s at the Public Market. For bagels- Balsam Bagels on Winton Rd.
Local ice cream- Bruster’s Ice Cream in Webster or Irondequoit. Abbot’s Frozen Custard (locations all over Rochester). Outside of Rochester (and the best ice cream in the area): Oliver’s Candies in Batavia (head west on 490 towards Buffalo).
Bars with a friendly atmosphere and a good selection of beers on tap- MacGregors (various locations) and The Distillery (Mt. Hope Ave and Ridge Road in Greece).
Liquer store with great selection of wines- Marketplace Liquer on Jefferson Rd in Henrietta or Century Liquor on Ridge Road in Greece.
I know there are plenty of others for each of these categories, not to mention plenty more categories to suggest. Eat well and be merry- have fun trying ’em out!
